How To Create Great Instagram Stories
The more I use Instagram Stories, the more I love them. It’s great to be able to share a small moment from my day that isn’t necessarily something I want to put in my Instagram feed, but is something my followers would enjoy. I find a lot of my engagement is happening in Stories and DM’s, and I think that’s going to continue.
How To Create Great Instagram Stories
Here are a few tips to help you create great Instagram Stories.
1. Post more than once a day.
While I wouldn’t recommend posting on your Instagram feed more than once a day, Stories are great for sharing little snippets all day long. That being said, don’t overshare. 4-6 stories in a day is a great amount to get started, but you should test it out with your followers – keep an eye on how many people are dropping off and skipping the Stories at the end when you share more.
2. Share both photos and video.
Mix it up! Try to get on video several times a week. It’s a great way for your followers to get to know you better as your personality shines through. But don’t feel like every Instagram Story has to be a video.
3. Include captions in your Instagram Stories videos
A lot of people watch Stories with the sound turned off because they are multitasking and don’t want their phones to make noise at work, while their baby is taking a nap on the couch next to them, or while their spouse is trying to fall asleep in bed at night. More importantly, some of your followers are deaf or hard of hearing. Including captions is an easy way to ensure that everyone can enjoy your videos.
An app like Clipomatic can be used to easily add captions. Just record your video and let Clipomatic add words. You can edit your captions before saving if the voice recognition gets something wrong.
4. Use gifs, music, stickers, polls, etc
Instagram has a lot of options for fun things you can add to your stories. Take a few minutes to add emojis and gifs or include a poll to get your followers involved.
5. Use apps to create the perfect story images.
There are a lot of apps out there to help you design the perfect images before you share them on your Stories. Canva and Unfold are great for making collage templates. Font Candy and Typorama are great for adding text with flair.
Most of all, have fun with your Instagram Stories. Use Stories to connect with your followers and your friends on Instagram. Shout out some of your favorite Instagramers. Ask questions. Promote your new pictures when you post them on your feed. And don’t forget to interact and respond to other people’s Stories. It’s a great way to get to know people better.
