In the Pacific Northwest, we are feeling just a hint of fall in the air, and I want to sneak in an end of summer trip before the weather turns completely cold. Weekend getaways are a great way to satisfy your wanderlust when you can’t get away for a full vacation. Weekend trip packing is all about striking the perfect balance of bringing everything you need and leaving everything you don’t need. Today, I’m going to share my weekend trip packing list with you, so you can be prepared for one last summer hurrah.
BLENDstyles Weekend Trip Packing List
The secret to finding that perfect balance in your weekend trip packing is to bring pieces that can seamlessly take you from day to night and work well in a variety of situations. I also try to bring pieces that ALL match each other, so I can mix up outfits on the fly if I want.
Weekend Travel Carry-On Bag + Packing Cubes
For short trips, I love to take a carry-on backpack as my only piece of luggage. It’s great if you are flying or driving, as they don’t take a lot of space and you can toss them over your shoulder to leave your hands free. Being a blogger, I always have my computer with me, so a slot for my laptop is a must when I’m looking for a bag.
For your actual packing, you need packing cubes. If you’ve never tried them before, they will change your travel life. Using the cubes will help you to stay organized while on your trip and enable you to fit more clothes into your suitcase.
Weekend Tops
Camisoles are great for your weekend packing list, because they don’t take up much space in your bag and are the perfect foundation for a layered look. This Double V Swing Camisole has a flattering cut, and I love the back. Pair it with this layering cardigan or toss a tie sleeve cozy fleece top over it when the evening turns chilly. Along sleeve side tie tee can be worn on its own or layered over a camisole.
Weekend Bottoms
You have to bring a pair of shorts with you for your last trip! I love waist tie shorts with a simple white sneaker – they are super comfortable for a car ride or flight. For pants, I always like something a little more tailored with a casual spirit. These kick flare knit ankle pants are great for travel, and have a little stretch to make them extra comfortable. A simple pleated skirt is always a must for a night out.
Weekend Shoes
I love shoes as much as you do (maybe even more!) but shoes are notorious for taking up a lot of space in your bag. I try to limit myself to two pairs. I’ll be packing my new favorite BCBG Generation black sandals and low white sneakers for my next weekend getaway.
Swimwear, Underwear, Toiletries, and ALL the Accessories
Pack enough underwear for the days you will be traveling, and then toss in a couple extra pairs just in case you need them. One pair of pajamas should last you through the weekend. Swimsuits are small, so bring an extra if you plan to spend a lot of time at the pool and think you will need it.
For soaps and shampoos, I use a travel bottle set filled with my favorites. And while I could fill a whole bag with all of my makeup, I limit myself to the most important items that will fit into my packing cube. Jewelry goes into little Ziploc bags to keep chains from getting knotted and tangled. And I always have at least one scarf with me at all times.
Finally, don’t forget to bring chargers for all of your electronics, ID’s, and emergency contact information.
