How To Style Shelves
Who is ready for some spring cleaning and reorganizing? I am! This year I’m all about small changes that make big differences, and adding a fresh style to your shelves is a great example of a task that can make the whole room feel new without you having to spend many days or many hundreds of dollars on redecorating.
How To Style Shelves
- Start with the books. In recent years, it’s become popular to arrange books by color, height, or even to create simple book covers to give them a more uniform look. Once you decide how you are going to arrange your books overall, place them on your shelves and then get creative. Try stacking a few of them on top of each other horizontally, or arrange them in small groups of 3-5. You can also turn some of your favorites out to showcase the front covers.
- Add height. A tall vase, framed picture, or art piece is a great way to make the shelf feel full without overwhelming the space.
- Bring in something organic. A small plant (I suggest a cactus or other succulent that doesn’t require a lot of water) or a bowl with rocks or seashells is a great way to add a natural touch to your space.
- Don’t be afraid to layer. You can layer smaller accent pieces in front of other items. If you have a large set of shelves, try not to do this on every shelf, or they will start to look cluttered.
Whether you have a lot of books, or you only hold on to your most favorites, you can create interesting shelves that allow you to display items that bring you joy.
What is your favorite accessory on your shelves right now?
