One of the best things about the holiday season is all of the delicious treats there are to eat. And with all of those treats waiting for you in every direction, it’s more important than ever to stay active and not neglect your exercise routine during the holidays. Today I have some tips to help you stay active during the busiest season of the year.
How To Stay Active And Exercise During The Holiday Season
Whether you are staying home for the holiday or traveling somewhere new, these tips will help you stay active.
Explore On Foot
There are a lot of great holiday activities you can do on foot. I love getting out and enjoying Christmas lights – most cities have an area of downtown that is decorated, you can also check community groups on Facebook to find the best neighborhoods for elaborate decorations, and zoos often have zoo lights during the holiday season. All of these are great ways to get out and walk while celebrating the season.
Take The Stairs
If you normally take the elevator, this is the time to switch to the stairs. You will get in a lot of extra steps and burn extra calories this way. While you are at it, don’t worry if you can’t find a parking space close to the door when you go out to shop – those extra steps all count towards your daily activity goals, too.
Set Your Alarm An Hour Ahead
If all of the evening events are getting in the way of your usual exercise routine, set your alarm early and sneak in your workout in the beginning of your day. You might even find you want to keep up this routine after the holidays end.
Bring Your Friends To Workout With You
Invite a friend for a power walk through the mall, sign up for a fun run with your family, or use a guest pass to bring your out of town visitors to your gym with you. Your friends and family might just thank you for helping them get in some extra work outs.
Treat Yourself
If you plan to buy some new workout gear for Christmas, go ahead and open it up early! There is no reason to wait to break in those new shoes or try out your new home gym until Christmas morning. Use them now!
What are you doing to stay active this holiday season?
