How To Plan A Photoshoot For Instagram
When you’re running an Instagram profile or blog, you’re always in need of new pictures. More important, even if you’re a talented photographer, and take a lot of your own pictures, there are times when you will need a photographer to capture the perfect angles and showcase fashion. There are a few things to consider when you plan a photoshoot for Instagram or your blog.
How To Plan A Photoshoot For Instagram
Having a strong plan in place will ensure you get great photos to share on social media.
Find Your Photographer
When you are looking for a photographer for Instagram photos, a great place to start is on Instagram. Follow local hashtags, and look for someone who has an aesthetic and style that matches your own. You can also look at local bloggers and Instagramers to see who they are working with.
Once you find a great photographer, you will need to look at their packages and to make sure they are open to doing a shoot with multiple outfit changes and a variety of scenes. This can be a pricey ask, so know what your budget is before you discuss and book a photoshoot.
If budget is not on your side, you might start by working with a friend who is great with a camera and willing to take direction from you in how you want the shot set up. Or you could reach out to a local blogger and see if they would be open to doing an exchange where you both do photoshoots for each other. That is a great way to get more photos for your social media while also growing your own skills.
No matter which route you go in choosing a photographer, make sure you discuss photo usage and licensing rights. Especially if you’re going to create some images that will be used in sponsored posts. Discuss what, if any, photo credit you will use when using the images.
Choose A Location For Your Photoshoot
Location is everything. Above all, you need a space that is a great fit for your brand (color, style, etc), but you also need a location that allows for different backdrops. Moreover, your photographer will probably have suggestions for locations she has used in the past, so involve her in the conversation.
I try to look for locations that are just a short walk away from each other. If you have to drive from place to place, you are going to run through your photoshoot time too quickly.
Plan Your Outfits
You should have at least one outfit for each location you’re’ planning to visit. In addition to outfits, think about accessories. In fact, adding sunglasses, a different necklace or bag, and a cute jacket can turn one outfit into two. Make sure you choose outfits you can easily change into on the fly and feel great wearing!
Make A Shot List For Your Photoshoot
A shot list is exactly what it sounds like – a list of all of the shots you want to capture during your photoshoot. This will help you plan ahead for any accessories or props you need to bring (or products for sponsored posts). In other words it helps make sure you don’t get 25 pictures of you standing in the same pose. Think about the stories you are going to tell with the pictures and how they fit with the locations, outfits, and props you have chosen.
Post Your Photos Strategically
Lastly, once you have your photographs, resist the urge to post them all in one week! Spread them out and intersperse them with the images you are taking yourself.
If you have any tips for finding a great photographer to work with, leave them in the comments!
