One important closet staple is a good date night outfit. It does matter if you are single, in a relationship, or even married – you need a few outfits that are perfect for going out for the evening. When it’s cold outside, it’s easy to reach for the puffiest jackets and warmest bulky sweaters, and while I definitely support staying warm, it is possible to create a winter date night outfit that has both style and warmth.
Creating A Winter Date Night Outfit
My favorite staple for winter date nights is a sweater dress. There are a few directions you can go when you are looking for the perfect sweater dress: fit and flare (this one is my favorite!), fitted and ribbed, looser fit with a cowl neck, or a wrap sweater dress.
Leggings or warm tights are essential to keep your legs warm under your dress. I usually go for a neutral or black look, but you could be more daring with your leggings if you want.
I love a good pair of boots for almost any occasion, and date night is no exception. Everyone needs a classic pair of tall, black boots in their wardrobe.
Top off your look with a warm jacket. If you don’t have a wool coat, this Lauren Ralph Lauren wool coat or this notch collar wool coat would both be good choices. If it’s below freezing, you will need something warmer, but it doesn’t have to be super bulky. This jacket from North Face is nicely fitted and the faux fur is a cute touch. Whatever jacket you choose, don’t forget to add a scarf to keep your neck warm and complete your look.
The most important tip I have for creating the perfect winter date night outfit is to choose pieces that are comfortable! You’ll have more fun if you aren’t worrying about your clothes the whole night.
What’s your favorite date night look during the winter months?
