I’ve had a lot of questions about my favorite hair products, so today I’m going to share my daily hair routine. I have extremely thick hair, so my goals are to tame frizz, keep my hair as healthy as possible, and prevent spending the entire morning dealing with my hair.
Daily Hair Routine
I’m calling this my daily hair routine, but “washing” isn’t necessarily daily. While some people do like to wash their hair every day, it can be healthier to alternate every other. Of course, the amount of times you wash your hair a week will depend on your activity level throughout the day. For example, how oily your scalp is, as well as a myriad of other factors. If you’ve never tried going a day without washing your hair, give it a try this week or weekend as see if it works for you.
After washing, I feel like you don’t need a LOT of products in your hair as long as you have a good cut and use healthy products. To help maintain a healthy cut the 1st is to reduce the number of washes. In addition, it’s also important to use shampoo that helps add preventatives and oils which will build up the scalp and hair. Who can agree?
I love Kérastase products. I first heard about these salon products when I visitedGene Juarez. I immediately got hooked. The shampoo and conditioner really helped revitalize my hair. Above and beyond the shampoo and conditioner I especially like the Kerastase Immersion Nutritive rinse. This product also helps combat frizz. For whatever reason I seem to have some curl in the back of my head which can cause frizz. That being said, I do try to fluctuate between Kérastase and other products, because I find it helps keep my hair guessing a bit. Currently I’m using the anti-breakage Keratin oil shampooand conditioner from Target. Definitely check it out.
Keratin is a key ingredient when I look for shampoo and conditioner. It seems to really work for my hair but could be different for others. Keratin is a protein naturally found in the cells of our hair. It aids in strength and elasticity, and keeps your hair from feeling brittle and dry. I color my hair every 7-8 weeks, and using keratin in my shampoo and conditioner keeps it shiny and smooth.
Tip: Use cold water when rinsing conditioner from your hair. It will seal your hair cuticle, smoothing your hair and giving it an extra shine.
Equally important, before applying any heat to my hair, I use a heat protector. It’s an important step in maintaining healthy hair when you apply any heat.I prefer to use the Kerastase Elixir Kultimeit doesn’t seem to weigh your hair down .
To dry my hair, I use theCentrix Q-Zone hair dryerpurchased from Amazon. One thing I love about this hair dryer – it’s super quiet compared to other dryers. This is a real plus if you’re not trying to wake up the entire house. It’s especially helpful in the wee early mornings and the mid-night owls. The other thing I love is it’s powerful enough to dry my hair fairly quickly (which is a huge point when you have thick hair), but it doesn’t blow an excessive amount of hot air.
Lastly, once I’m finished drying my hair, I straighten it with aBabyliss Pro Nano Titanium Ultra- thin Straightening Iron from Amazon. Can I just say this is the most amazing tool I’ve used for my hair. Using a good straightener is key to saving time day or night. I’ve tried a lot of different straighteners that take a long time and require you to go over each section of hair several times. With this one, I’m able to move quickly and only run it over each section once.
One small tidbit I don’t typically use hairspray or any type of spray as it seems to leave my hair with a straw-like texture. However, I can tell you I absolutely love the Klorane dry shampoo. So I guess at times I do use a spray. This is to die for and I encourage you to give it a try and it’s only $20 at Ulta or even the Klorane website! The days you don’t feel like washing just add a bit of Klorane and you’re just like new!
My strategy is to throw your hands up and keep it simple and honestly I do most days! A quick run through with a brush or comb and I’m ready to walk out the door.
What are your favorite hair products?
