I love visiting Portland. It’s a fairly short drive from where I live in Seattle, which is perfect for a last-minute weekend getaway. Plus, there are so many fun things to do in Portland, I always come home feeling inspired and refreshed.

Powell’s City Of Books
This amazing bookstore is three stories tall and occupies a city block. It’s HUGE. In fact, they have maps to help you find your way around. It’s paradise for a book lover with over 2 million new and used books in stock. You might want to plan a whole weekend (or longer) just to visit Powell’s City of Books.

Gardens and Parks
Portland is a beautiful city, and its residents place a high value on nature, as you can see in all of the parks and gardens you can tour. Here are a few you don’t want to miss:

Portland Saturday Market
The Portland Saturday Market is open on both Saturdays and Sundays and is a great place to shop for local art, handmade crafts, great food, and fun souvenirs. It’s been recognized as one of the largest continuously operating open-air arts and crafts markets in the country. It’s open every year from March – Christmas Eve.

Bike Tours
Portland is a great city for biking. There are bike tours available all over the city, or you can rent bikes and create your own tour. It’s a great way to get up close to the eight bridges that span the WillametteRiver.

Portland Aerial Tram
Another great way to get to know the city is by taking a ride on the Portland Aerial Tram. The tram will take you from South Waterfront to Marquam Hill, reaching 500 feet in the air during your trip.

Voodoo Doughnut
No trip to Portland is complete without a visit to Voodoo Doughnut to try their amazing specialty doughnuts. Plan on taking a couple dozen home with you. Your coworkers will LOVE you for bringing in a box on Monday morning when you go back to work after your fun weekend.
